Kids Wear TechSpecs when...

Phones create high visual demand because they’re often held very close, increasing the focusing effort needed to keep text clear. Over time, this strain is commonly associated with eye fatigue, dryness, fluctuating vision, and a higher risk of nearsightedness.

TechSpecs help ease this demand by promoting a more comfortable viewing distance and reducing stress on key visual systems. So whenever you need to hand your child a phone for entertainment, whether it’s at a restaurant or in the back of the car, you can feel good knowing you’re easing the strain on their growing eyes.

I get into the zone when the glasses are on. It’s like when an athlete puts on their uniform.

Laptops can place significant strain on your eyes. Smaller text, prolonged focusing, and screen glare make your eyes work harder than they were designed to, often leading to fatigue during long work sessions.

When we concentrate on screens, we naturally blink less, which can contribute to dryness and discomfort.

TechSpecs support a more relaxed visual experience throughout the day — helping your eyes feel less tired after hours on your laptop so you can stay comfortable and productive.

Tablets are easy to hold close — and kids often bring them just inches from their faces.

That long, locked-in close viewing puts heavy stress on the focusing and eye-teaming muscles, whether it’s for games, videos, or homework.

TechSpecs ease that demand which helps their eyes feel less tired after being on a tablet.

My son Lukas (8 y.o.) used to come home exhausted after using his iPad at school. Since he started wearing TechSpecs, that’s changed—he finishes the school day with energy left over.

You might ask yourself, what's wrong with reading? Everyone knows you should read as much as possible, right? But think about it... even before digital devices, "book worms" were known for wearing glasses.

Looking up close for long periods of time can be damaging for your eyes. New studies are even linking higher grades to a higher likelihood of nearsightedness. Reading is wonderful for the mind — but your eyes still benefit from the right support during long stretches of near work.

FAQ

At what age can my child start wearing TechSpecs?

TechSpecs are designed for kids who spend meaningful time focusing up close, typically ages 5 and up. That includes screens like tablets, laptops, and phones, but it also covers homework, drawing, reading, or anything else they’re doing up close.

Younger kids with high screen use can absolutely benefit too. Research links each additional hour of daily screen time to 42% higher odds of nearsightedness in kids ages 2 to 7.

If you have specific vision questions about your child, it’s worth checking with your pediatric optometrist about whether TechSpecs are a good fit.

My kid already wears prescription glasses. Can they wear TechSpecs?

If your child wears prescription glasses, talk to their eye doctor about a prescription version of TechSpecs' near-work technology. The kids line of TechSpecs is designed primarily for kids who don't currently wear prescription glasses but still spend a lot of time on screens.

How long should my kid wear them?

Only during near work, like screens, reading, homework, gaming, and crafting. They don't need them for playing outside, sports, or watching TV from across the room. That's part of what makes TechSpecs so easy to build into a routine. When it's time to get up and play, they just leave them at the desk and go! No all-day wear, just a little support when they're focusing up close. Keep one at home and one at school!

Will my kid actually wear them?

It’s the question we hear most, even though parents are almost always surprised by how much their kids love them! TechSpecs feels like their own trendy, grown-up accessory, not a medical device. They’re lightweight, durable, and the kind of thing kids actually want to wear. When a child gets to pick their own pair, it becomes theirs, and that’s usually what turns “will they wear them?” into “where are my glasses?” In one of our classroom trials, we watched kids get up and grab their glasses on their own when it was time to focus. (More than one kid? Let each pick a different color, so every pair is unmistakably theirs.) And with our 7-day trial, there’s no risk in seeing how your child takes to them.

Are they covered by FSA/HSA?

Yes — TechSpecs are FSA/HSA eligible. Many families use those funds at checkout.

What makes TechSpecs different from blue light glasses for kids?

Blue-light glasses primarily filter blue light, which can help with sleep. Blue light tells the brain it’s still daytime and holds back melatonin, the hormone that makes us sleepy, so wearing them for a few hours before bed can help kids wind down at night. That’s a real benefit, but it’s a sleep benefit. It has very little to do with digital eye strain.

Digital eye strain doesn’t always look the way you’d expect. Some kids get tired eyes, headaches, or blurry vision. Others just run out of steam sooner, get fidgety, or can’t sit with homework as long, and often they can’t tell you why. Underneath all of it is the same thing, a muscle effort most people never notice. Looking at something up close asks two different sets of eye muscles to work at once: one set flexes to keep the screen in focus, and another turns both eyes inward so they aim at the same spot. During a long homework session or a full day of laptops and tablets, those muscles have to hold that effort for hours, and that is what wears growing eyes down.

That’s the part blue-light glasses don’t address. TechSpecs uses doctor-developed RELAX™ lenses to gently ease that muscle strain while your child works, and it includes blue-light filtering too, so you get both benefits in one pair.

How will I know they’re working?

Some kids will notice, some won’t, and a lot of them aren’t really aware of the symptoms in the first place. You often won’t hear “my eyes hurt.” You just get a tantrum an hour later because they’re worn down and can’t quite name why. That awareness of what’s helping isn’t always there, especially with younger kids. Some of the little ones just love wearing them and couldn’t tell you the reason.

A lot of older kids do tell their parents their eyes feel less tired after a long homework session. But the bigger benefit, easing the focusing stress that builds during years of close-up work, is more behind-the-scenes and not something they’ll feel day to day. That’s by design. The 7-day trial is there so you can make sure the fit, the look, and the routine work for your family, with no risk if they’re not right.
